The Long and Short

Long is the night of the awake.
Long is the journey of the weary.
Long is the misery of the unaware.
Far is the happiness of one who
does not know the sublime truth.

Shallow is the glory of the egoist,
Shallow is the love of the fool,
Shallow is the wealth of the miser,
Far is the peace of one whose
deeds are not wholesome.

Short is the Commitment of the restless.
Short is the Patience of the averse.
Short is the Contentment of the Greedy,
Far is the growth of one who does not contribute.

Deep is the Joy of the Generous.
Deep is the Security of the Fearless.
Deep is the Peace of the Stainless,
Deep is the Love of one who has
known the sublime truth.

Near is the sorrowlessness of the disentangled,
Near is the deathlessness of the Wise,
Near is the destination of the traveler,
Closer is the Liberation of the continuous.

Abundant is the Sympathetic Joy of Egoless,
Abundant is the Compassion of the unraveled
Abundant is the Loving Kindness of the Liberated,
Liberated is the one who has ceased and shunned all evil.
